The Batumi Botanical Garden (Georgian: ბათუმის ბოტანიკური ბაღი) is a 108 hectare area of land 9 km north of the city of Batumi, capital of Autonomous Republic of Adjara, Georgia. Located at the place called Mtsvane Kontskhi ("The Green Cape") on the Black Sea shore, it is one of the largest botanical gardens in the former Soviet Union.The terrain of Batumi Botanical Garden is mountainous, the soil is red, sandy and alluvial. In the garden there are three arboretums, the forest reserve of Kolkheti and 9 floristic departments created according to the landscape-geographical principle. Seeds, cuttings and bulbs of subtropical plants are sent to various foreign botanical institutions and experimenters by exchange. The garden has a rich library and a herbarium of over 48,000 sheets.
